Recycled art at Kitengela

            Anyone who has been to Kitengela near Nairobi will instantly notice the works of art made from recycled glass, metal and other materials. Stunning works by local artists support a huge community of people and beautify gardens, offices, institutions and homes. Its amazing how we recycle but for money or to help clean our enviornmet and that others use it inj a form of art.

BANG the drum to go to school

Aviwe (10 years) and Fuzile (8years) started their own band! They call them selves “Thandabantu” this Xhosa word means “the one who loves people”. Their father died in a car accident a few years ago. Their mother, Cordelia, got injured from the accident and shes unable to walk perfect. She can’t really work and She didn’t finish school either. She tries to sell as many home baked cookies as possible to her community in township Khayelitsha to make an income for herself and her 2 sons.Cordelia and her kids made their own instrument! It took them 2 buckets, 4 sticks, a piece of leather, some wire and lots of bottle tops!The boys started making some music on the streets of Cape Town, got some money and soon were able to buy a real instrument! The keyboard (600 Rand), together with the drums and the boys’ voices are the needed things for the Thandabantu-band.They now play their music to collect money to go to school. During their summer holiday they made 100-200 Rand a day. School is free, but lunch is 3rand each child and travel is 5 rand each child. They have pay all that money everyday. During the weekends and in School Holidays  Aviwe and Fuzile are at the corner of St. Georges Mall and Strand Street in the Cape Town City Center playing their music. They can’t read a note… hmmm…who knows if there is some musician reading this? I bet  the boys would love to know more about music. They seem to enjoy it a lot.

The Constitution is still used today because we use the first amendment which is freedom of speech. We can have our opinions about certain things. The constitution is fair to us because before the Constitution women weren’t aloud to give opinions about many things in the world.Even though the Constitutionis old we still use it in our daily life’s

Village Toys (Uganda)

In Uganda they are really poor. Many kids can’t afford toys. Because of that they atcually invented a new toy whis isan SUV  made from an old Cooking Oil container. The top is cut-out and they put other little belongs in there.The wheels are made from old slippers, or sandles. Spokes from an old bicycle is used  as the axles. Banana stalk was used to pull the toys. To make this toy its saud it takes avout 30 minuttes or less depending on how you built it.

1.Catacombs- an underground cemetary, one consisting of tunnel and rooms with recesses dug out for cofffins and tombs.(I don’t like catacombs since there underground.)

2.dispel-  to drive away ( A strong wind can dispel fog)

3.eloquence- an ability to speak forcefully and persuasively (My teacher talks with eloquence when she trys to make us agree with her.

4. Quaker- a memeber of a religious group known as the society of friends. (The quakers helped slaves escape.)

5. fastadious - difficult to please (Little kids are very fastidious sometimes.)

Student nurses say good bye to Nata clinic

The student nurses  in Nata Villag are finally done with their four months of training . Before they left the student nurses decided to build a mission statement pillar in front of the clinic. The students will attend classes for atleast five more months, before they actually become  nurses at Nyangabwe referral hospital in Francistown. The staff at Nata clinic wishes well in their medical work adventures.
